Eagle Pass High Alumni Glen John Claybrook Wins Academy Award for Animated Film “Encanto”

Eagle Pass High School alumni (Class of 1974) Glen John Claybrook earned an Academy Award, also known as an Oscar, for Best Animated Feature Film as the Character Technical Director in the Walt Disney animated movie, “Encanto,” at the 94th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards held on March 27, 2022 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
Claybrook earned his second Academy Award with “Encanto” as he previously won his first with the Walt Disney Animated Feature Film “Frozen” in 2014.
Claybrook joined Walt Disney Animation Studios in 1996 and was named Character Technical Director in 2007.
Claybrook is known for working on such animated movies such as Big Hero 6, Puddles, Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph, Tangled, Bolt, Raya and the Last Dragon, Chicken Little, Home on the Range, and other films.
He credits his upbringing in Eagle Pass, Texas on the U.S.-Mexico border for exposing him to a diverse group of people, characters, talent, and growing up free to pursue one’s dreams.
Claybrook is also a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin in 1979. He is the son of the late John Claybrook and Lydia Claybrook.
The movie “Encanto” tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia.
“Encanto” features songs written by Emmy and Grammy Awards winner, Lin Manuel Miranda, and directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush.
