Eagle Pass Man Dies After Scuffle with Eagle Pass Police Department Officers

An Eagle Pass, Texas male individual died after a scuffle with Eagle Pass Police Department Officers sent to assist him on a welfare call on March 29, 2022, announced Eagle Pass Police Chief Federico Garza, Jr.
Police Chief Garza stated a welfare call was received by the Eagle Pass Police Department concerning a male individual at an apartment complex on North Veterans Boulevard in Eagle Pass, Texas. Upon arriving at the scene, Eagle Pass Police Officers contacted the male individual who was allegedly acting belligerent and a scuffle ensued between the male individual and officers as they sought to help him.
The male individual allegedly resisted the Police Officers, causing the Officers to subdue the man after a brief scuffle. However, the male individual lost consciousness during the scuffle and was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center. The man died at the hospital’s emergency room.
A Maverick County Justice of the Peace pronounced the male individual deceased and ordered an autopsy.
An investigation of the man’s death and the incident leading to the scuffle with the Police Officers will be conducted by the Texas Rangers.
The name and age of the male individual has not been released by the Eagle Pass Police Department.
In the event that the investigation were to find that the male individual died as a result of excessive force by officers, it may give rise to a legal wrongful death claim by the family of the male individual.
