Eagle Pass ISD School Board Incumbents Lupita Fuentes, Hilda Martinez, and Victor E. Perry Register for Re-Election

The candidate registration period for the Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees General Election kicked-off on Monday, July 25, 2022, with three incumbents registering for re-election at the local school district’s board room, located at 587 Madison Street, as Lupita Fuentes, Hilda P. Martinez, and Victor E. Perry each signed the candidate application and took the oath of candidate.
The Eagle Pass Independent School District Board of Trustees candidate registration period is from July 23 to August 22, 2022 for the general election on November 8, 2022. Any person interested in running for one of the three Board of Trustee positions on the ballot may visit the Eagle Pass Independent School District Administrative Office at 587 Madison Street to pick an application, fill it out, and take the oath of candidate. There is no candidate registration fee. Candidates must be a United States citizen, 18 years or older, be a resident of Maverick County, and not have a felony criminal conviction. Fuentes, Martinez, and Perry were joined at their candidate registration on July 25 by their Eagle Pass ISD Board of Trustee colleagues Dr. Hector Alvarez, Jorge Barrera, Glenna Purcell, and Christopher Hiller who expressed support of their re-election.
Trustee Victor E. Perry stated he appreciated the support of the entire Board of Trustees and discussed a project known as the “Group of 8” that includes the seven School Board Trustees and Superintendent Samuel Mijares. Perry added that the Eagle Pass ISD is looking at many projects, including the building of a new baseball and softball fields since the City of Eagle Pass built a new Sports Complex and the school district can’t stay behind.
Trustee Lupita Fuentes thanked her fellow Board of Trustees for attending her candidate registration and show of support of her bid for re-election. Fuentes added the seven School Board Trustees have worked united during recent difficult moments experienced by the school district and community due to COVID-19.
Trustee Hilda P. Martinez stated that all seven Trustees have worked together well during the recent difficult times facing our community. Martinez added that the Board of Trustees will be reducing the School District’s ad valorem tax rate by at least 13 cents per $100 valuation for 2022 thanks to the assistance of the School District Administration, which is led by Superintendent Samuel Mijares.
The Eagle Pass ISD received over $66 million in federal funds from President Joe Biden’s and the Democratic Congress approval of the American Rescue Fund due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which Republicans voted against.
The Eagle Pass ISD Board of Trustees are elected by the registered voters of Maverick County to oversee and set the public and educational policies of the local school district.
Early Voting for the November 8, 2022 General Election starts on October 24 and runs through November 4 and regular Election Day is on Tuesday, November 8.
