Eagle Pass Announces New $9.6 Million Hyatt Place Hotel Investment

Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. announced at a press conference held on Thursday, October 27, 2022, that local investors, Oscar De Los Santos, Gabriel Bustamante, and Saul Rodriguez, will build a new $9.6 million Hyatt Place Hotel at the Patsy Winn Boulevard at the entrance of the City of Eagle Pass Patsy Winn Sports Complex to meet the high demand for hotel rooms in the growing border communities of Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.
The new Hyatt Place Hotel will be four stories high, have 100 rooms, and employ 25 people and include spacious guest rooms, flexible work spaces and cozy corners, conference room, executive meeting room and center, swimming pool, fitness center, and a hotel bar.
Oscar De Los Santos stated his partners and him chose to invest in Eagle Pass because “we have deep roots here, our parents are from here, we grew up here, we raised our children here, we wish and hope they raise our grandchildren here. It is here in Eagle Pass that we are seeing a big change in the way private and public sectors work together. We are extremely proud to be a part of this up and coming development and investments forthcoming in our community. This large investment is being facilitated by the benefits and incentives that are being offered by the City and the County.”
De Los Santos thanked on behalf of Amigos Hospitality, Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr., State Representative Eddie Morales, Jr., Eagle Pass City Council Members Yolanda P. Ramon, Elias Diaz, Monica J. Cruz, and William Davis, Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo and County Commissioners Roberto Ruiz, Jerry Morales, Olga Ramos, and Rosy Cantu for their support as well as acknowledged Eagle Pass Economic Development Director Arturo Marquez and Eagle Pass-Maverick County Economic Development Alliance Executive Director Judith A. Canales for their expertise and assistance in this investment.
Mayor Salinas stated this new $9.6 million investment will bring other economic and business investments to the Patsy Winn Boulevard area in the near future.
The new hotel investment in Eagle Pass was made possible by the City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County offering Chapters 380 and 381, Texas Local Government Code, tax abatement incentives for a designated number of years to the parent company of the new hotel, Los Amigos, L.LC.
Eagle Pass Economic Development Director Arturo Marquez stated ‘Chapters 380 and 381 of the Texas Local Government Code authorizes cities and counties the authority to create and provide economic development programs using loans and grants. This allows for the City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County to facilitate business activity by diversifying the tax base, attracting new quality jobs, retaining and growing local industries and developing the existing workforce.”
Eagle Pass Interim City Manager Ivan Morua stated “this new major investment in our community will complement all of the other economic development projects taking place in our great City. The new Hyatt Place Hotel is extremely essential essential for not only creating new jobs, but also for achieving economic prosperity in our City.”
Earlier this year, the City of Eagle Pass announced the construction of another new hotel project on U.S. Highway 277 near the Eagle Pass Patsy Winn Sports Complex.
These two new hotel investments will assist to meet the demand for hotel rooms in Eagle Pass and attract other retail and restaurant investments to the Eagle Pass Patsy Winn Sports Complex area.
