Mario E. Garcia Announces Candidacy for City Council Place 3

Mario E. Garcia has authorized the Eagle Pass Business Journal to announce his candidacy for the City of Eagle Pass City Council Place 3 seat in the May 6, 2023 Election.
Mario E. Garcia announced his candidacy for the Eagle Pass City Council Place 3 position that is currently open in the May 6 election. If elected, Garcia will concentrate in three major areas: Economic Development by looking to bring in more jobs for our residents, industry, commerce, and tourism; Enhancement of Public Safety Systems such as the Police Department, Fire Department, and Public Health Department; and Increase of Financial Transparency in order to prevent irregular practices and inform the community of expenditures and investments made for the community. Garcia supports transparency in government.
Garcia seeks to prepare the City of Eagle Pass for the economic development and growth that it is facing and not be caught unprepared and to take advantage of the opportunities this growth brings with it. Garcia is an Eagle Pass resident who has set roots in this beautiful city and only wants to make it a better and safer place to live in. Garcia stated that he will help by implementing a structure that has systems and policies in place in order to have a city that will maintain its organization and growth.
Garcia left Eagle Pass at the age of 10 and returned to Eagle Pass 13 years ago in 2010, after leaving due to his family relocating to San Antonio. During his absence from Eagle Pass, he was able to serve our country from 2002 to 2010 in the United States military and received an Honorable Discharge from the military. During his time in the military, he was able to travel to various countries and experience different cultures. In the military, he was able to learn about leadership, loyalty, hard work, teamwork, and more than anything to stand up for what he believes in.
Garcia received an Associate’s Degree from San Antonio College, a Bachelor’s of Science, and a Masters of Science from Texas Tech University, and a Masters in Education Administration from Sul Ross University State University-Rio Grande College. Garcia has emphasized the importance of bringing higher education to Eagle Pass and the impact it will have to the community. He supports the establishment of a four year university in Eagle Pass and looks forward legislating and developing policies to help bring the new four year University and facilities.
In Eagle Pass, Garcia has been an educator at the High School level, an assistant principal, and Food Service Director for the Eagle Pass Independent School District. Through his experiences in Eagle Pass he has been able to see the needs of our community, help those in need, and obtain the knowledge and experience of administration through his current Director position. Garcia has approximately 250-300 staff members working under him in order to operate the EPISD Food Service Department in which it deals with Federal Funds, rules and regulations that he must abide by in order to maintain Free Meals to all students in the community. This position brings people skills, people management, budget, operations, policies, and many other practices that aren’t easily obtained. He is responsible for providing meals to over 13,000 public schools students.
Garcia plans to place all his knowledge and experience to best help Eagle Pass prosper and prepare for what he sees as a BOOM growth that we must be ready for and adjusting to. The way to be ready is to have the resources to implement what is needed for the City and the appropriate funding plans in place.
Garcia respectfully requests your vote in the City Council May 6 election in order to allow him to work for you to make of Eagle Pass a prosperous and prepared city. He brings leadership, management, discipline, vision, and public policy experience to the City of Eagle Pass.
Early Voting is from April 24 to May 2, 2023 at the Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center, 480 S. Adams Street, Eagle Pass, Texas from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including a Special Saturday Early Voting Day on April 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Regular Election Day is Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Center.
