Davis and Garcia Sworn-In as City Council Members, Davis Elected Mayor Pro-Tem

The City of Eagle Pass, Texas City Council held a special meeting on Thursday, May 11, 2023, to officially canvass the election results of the City Council and City Charter Amendment Election of May 6, 2023, approving a resolution accepting the canvassing of the election results and declaring William “Billy” Davis as the winner of the City Council Place 1 position and Mario E. Garcia as the winner of the City Council Place 3 position, as well as having the City Charter Amendment approved by voters.
After the canvassing of the May 6, 2023 Election results, Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. invited City Council members to join him at the dais in recognizing outgoing Mayor Pro-Tem Yolanda P. Ramon for her dedicated public service as a City Council Member and Mayor Pro-Tem.
Mayor Salinas presented Ramon with a plaque of recognition for her extraordinary public service to the City of Eagle Pass while other Council Members presented Ramon with gifts of their own. Ramon also received a key to the City of Eagle Pass, a street sign with her name on it, a wooden wall clock, and a designer travel bag. Ramon thanked all the City Council Members, City employees, and voters for allowing her the privilege and honor to serve the community during 2018-2023. Ramon received a standing ovation from a packed City Council Chamber audience.
City Secretary Imelda Rodriguez proceeded to administer the Oath of Office and swore-in Davis and Garcia as newly elected City Council Members, Both City Council Members Davis and Garcia were joined by their respective families at the swearing-in ceremony and addressed the audience, thanking them for their support.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Mayor Salinas welcomed Davis and Garcia to the City Council “Team” and stated he looked forward to working with both of them.
Mayor Salinas recommended City Council Member William “Billy” Davis be elected as Mayor Pro-Tem and Council Member Monica J. Cruz made the motion to elect Davis as Mayor Pro-Tem as the City Council unanimously voted to approve the motion. Davis will now serve as Mayor Pro-Tem of the City of Eagle Pass.
A reception was held after the special meeting adjourned to congratulate and greet outgoing Mayor Pro-Tem Yolanda P. Ramon and newly elected Mayor Pro-Tem William “Billy” Davis and Council Member Mario E. Garcia.
