Third Bomb Threat Made against Maverick County Courthouse Complex
A bomb threat was made against the Maverick County Courthouse, located at 500 Quarry Street, Eagle Pass, Texas, on Monday, May 1, 2023, at approximately 1:40 p.m. while the 293rd Judicial District Court under District Judge Maribel Flores was holding court concerning criminal cases.
Maverick County Sheriff Deputy Ricardo Chavarria issued an evacuation order of the Maverick County Courthouse to all employees and visitors conducting business at the courthouse at approximately 1:40 p.m. after receiving the bomb threat by telephone.
The Eagle Pass Fire Department, Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, and Eagle Pass Police Department arrived at the Maverick County Courthouse to conduct a bomb threat inspection of the building.
At approximately 2:20 p.m., the Eagle Pass Fire Department gave clearance of employees and visitors to return to the courthouse after conducting a thorough search of the building.
This May 1, 2023 bomb threat is the third threat made by telephone against the Maverick County Courthouse Complex in less than a month.
The first threat was made on April 5, 2023 against the Maverick County Courthouse on 500 Quarry Street while a second threat was made on April 28 against the historic Maverick County Courthouse on 501 E. Main Street. Both threats were inconsequential after being inspected.
293rd Judicial District Attorney Roberto Serna stated that it is a state criminal law violation to make a bomb threat and that his office will prosecute whomever is detained for making these bomb threats.
The three bomb threats are under investigation by the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies.
