Eagle Pass City Council Seeks Applicants for City Manager

The Eagle Pass, Texas City Council unanimously approved to authorize Interim City Manager Ivan Morua to open the solicitation of applicants for the position of City Manager, which has had an Interim City Manager since August 9, 2022, at its regular meeting held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
On August 9, 2022, then former City Manager George Antuna tendered a letter of resignation after a grilling executive session concerning the evaluation of his services. Antuna was initially hired as City Manager on March 4, 2019 by City Council and served until August 9, 2022 in that capacity. Antuna’s letter of resignation surprised the citizens of Eagle Pass since the City Council had just awarded him a pay raise and contract extension on October 14, 2021, serving three years and five months in the City Manager post.
The Eagle Pass City Council appointed Assistant City Manager Ivan Morua as Interim City Manager at the August 9, 2022 meeting. Morua has been Interim City Manager for the past 10 months.
Morua had previously served as Interim City Manager during January 2, 2018 to March 4, 2019, when former City Manager Arturo B. Rodriguez resigned on December 28, 2017.
With the City of Eagle Pass enjoying an economic development and population growth spurt during recent months, the City Council is seeking qualified applicants for the City Manager position to lead the community into its next phase of development and future growth. Interim City Manager Ivan Morua has been tasked with developing and organizing an application process for the City Manager post.
Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. stated in an exclusive interview with the Eagle Pass Business Journal that the City Council seeks applicants with experience and outstanding qualifications to assist the City of Eagle Pass grow and attain its development goals.
The City Manager position is key to guiding the community’s growth and managing all of the City Departments and personnel. The City of Eagle Pass will be announcing shortly the application process and the City Council will interview finalists and appoint a new City Manager in the immediate future.
