U. S. Army National Guard Members Detained for Alleged Smuggling of Persons
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber announced that two United States Army National Guard members were detained in separate incidents in Kinney County, Texas for allegedly smuggling of persons by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers near Bracketville, Texas.
The U. S. Army National Guard members detention stunned law enforcement authorities and border communities as many National Guard soldiers are assigned to the U.S.-Mexico border to monitor and protect against the smuggling of undocumented immigrants, drugs, and other unlawful activities.
Sheriff Schmerber noted that in one incident, Diamond Shiira Lampton, a member of the U. S. National Guard, was detained by DPS Troopers in Kinney County, Texas for alleged smuggling of persons.
Schmerber added that in a second separate incident, DPS Troopers detained Desman Rochon Braxton for alleged smuggling of persons in Kinney County, Texas.
Schmerber noted that one of the two U. S. Army National Guard members holds the rank of Sergeant.
Schmerber concluded that DPS filed charges against the two persons separately for alleged smuggling of persons under Texas state law and both are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
