Vehicle Accident at U. S. Border Patrol Checkpoint on U. S. Highway 277 South in Dimmit County Injures Officer

A serious motor vehicle accident was reported on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at approximately 1 p.m. at the U. S. Border Patrol Checkpoint on U. S. Highway 277 South in Dimmit County near Carrizo Springs, Texas, injuring at least one U. S. Border Patrol Officer who had to be airlifted by helicopter to a San Antonio, Texas medical center for treatment of his injuries.
A white Dodge Ram pick-up truck collided with the U. S. Border Patrol Checkpoint on U. S. Highway 277 South in Dimmit County striking a parked U. S. Border Patrol vehicle and the inspection station at the checkpoint, causing significant damage to the vehicle, checkpoint inspection station, and injuring at least one U. S. Border Patrol Officer or more.
Dimmit County Sheriff’s Department and the Dimmit County Fire Rescue EMS rushed to the scene of the accident to treat the injured persons and handle traffic while the Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers arrived at the scene of the accident.
The accident is under investigation by the Texas DPS and the names of the driver of the white Dodge Ram pick-up truck and those injured have not been released.
The U. S. Border Patrol Checkpoint involved in the collision is on U. S. Highway 277 South between Carrizo Springs and Eagle Pass, Texas.
