The Piedras Negras Tourism Committee celebrates the founding of the original Nacho at Club Victoria in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico by Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya in the 1940s with a four day festival filled with lots of fun and delicious activities, food booths, games, entertainment, carnival, the World’s Largest Nacho, the Jalapeño Eating Contest, the Miss Tourism Beauty Pageant, and the finest cattle exposition in the State of Coahuila. The four day Nacho Festival is a family-oriented event with lots of fun, food, activities, and entertainment for everyone in the family.
Founded in 1995, the Nacho Festival in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico is an international festival that unites all cultures of the world, particularly the United States-Mexico border, through the now infamous “Nacho” enjoyed around the world as the premier gastronomical food specialty item. The Nacho Festival keeps growing larger and more popular each year. The 2023 edition of the Nacho Festival is the 28th Anniversary. In 1998, the Nacho Festival was made a binational event with the festival’s Kickoff Party held outdoors in downtown Eagle Pass, Texas in front of the historic Aztec Theater with a live concert featuring Tejano music recording artiest Oscar G through the collaborative efforts of the former Eagle Pass Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Piedras Negras Tourism Committee.
A Nacho Festival Night was held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 7 p.m. at the IBC Bank in Eagle Pass, Texas to officially declare the 2023 Annual Nacho Festival open and to invite the public to attend the fun-filled four day family event in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico’s beautiful Paseo Del Rio (Riverwalk) along the Rio Grande, across from its historical sister city of Eagle Pass, Texas. The Kickoff featured handmade nachos topped with an assortment of toppings such as beans, shrimp, beef, chicken, fish, cheese, jalapeños, and many other toppings. The highlight of the Nacho Festival Kickoff was a live performance by world renowned concert pianist Alejandro Vela, a native of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, and a silent auction of past Nacho Festival memorabilia.
The Piedras Negras Nacho Festival Tourism Committee President Dr. Alberto Pena de los Santos stated this year’s 28th Annual Nacho Festival will be larger and feature more activities, music, entertainment, and contests than ever before, inviting the public to come and enjoy the most delicious Nachos in the world during October 12-15, 2023 on the banks of the Rio Grande at the Paseo del Rio (Riverwalk) in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, across from Eagle Pass, Texas.
Dr. Pena de los Santos extended an invitation to the Eagle Pass Business Journal at the Nacho Festival Night at IBC Bank to co-sponsor a return of the Nacho Festival Kickoff Party to Eagle Pass for 2024, which this publication gladly accepted.
IBC Bank-Eagle Pass President and CEO Hector J. Cerna stated the Nacho Festival transcends borders and cultures featuring the world’s premier specialty food item enjoyed by billions around the world. Cerna noted there is no better place to enjoy the world famous Nachos than in the city of its birthplace, Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, at the 2023 Nacho Festival during October 12-15.
