Eagle Pass High School senior weightlifter Rito Flores, Jr. garnered first place in his weight category of 83kg Sub-Junior at the Powerlifting America meet hosted by Primal Strength and Performance in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, October 22, 2023, qualifying for the Powerlifting America Nationals in January in Austin, Texas and compete for a potential spot on Team USA.
Flores lifted 452 pounds in squat, 468 pounds in deadlift, and 303 pounds in bench press to win first place at the San Antonio, Texas meet, competing against San Antonio and South Texas weightlifters.
Unlike other Texas high schools that have varsity weightlifting programs, Eagle Pass High School does not have such a program. Flores has been training now for several years on his own and through private instructors.
Flores continues to train daily in preparation for the Powerlifting Nationals in January 2024 at Austin, Texas, seeking the goal of potentially medaling and earning a spot on the coveted Team USA.
Rito Flores, Jr. is the son of Rito Flores and Marvelia Flores of Eagle Pass, Texas.
