Maverick County Voters Head to Polls on County $10 Million and $5 Million Bonds, Early Voting Starts October 23-November 3, 2023

Over 33,000 Maverick County registered voters face two important Maverick County Bonds, one for $10 Million and another for $5 Million totaling $15 Million, in the Texas General Election on November 7, 2023, starting with the Early Voting Period from Monday, October 23 through Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center, 480 South Adams Street, Eagle Pass, Texas 78852 and regular Election Day on Tuesday, November 7th, at designated Maverick County Precinct Polling Places.
The two page (front and back) Ballot will include Maverick County Proposition A calling for “the issuance of not to exceed $10 Million of. Maverick County Texas General Obligation Bonds to construct, acquire, equip, and improve road, bridge, and highway and necessary improvements related thereto; and the levying of a tax in payment hereof;” and Maverick County Proposition B calling for “the issuance of not to exceed $5 Million of Maverick County Texas General Obligation Bonds to purchase, acquire, construct, equip, and improve county park facilities, land, and necessary utilities thereto; and the levying of a tax in payment thereof.”
The two Maverick County Bonds totaling $15 Million originally started as a citizens petition to vote as a referendum to approve or deny the sum of $8 million in County issued bonds during the administration of former County Judge David R. Saucedo, presented on September 9, 2022to County Clerk Sara Montemayor and former Elections Administrator Roy Schmerber. A total of 2,282 Maverick County citizens signed a referendum petition that was certified as satisfying the state law requirements for a bond referendum. This citizen petition effort was led by then County Judge candidate Ramsey English Cantu, County Commissioners Roberto Ruiz and Olga M. Ramos, and other county taxpayers.
Ramsey English Cantu defeated former County Judge David Saucedo in the Democratic Primary Election and went on to get elected as Maverick County Judge in the November 2022 Election.
After getting elected as County Judge, Ramsey English Cantu and fellow County Commissioners Roberto Ruiz, Olga M. Ramos, and Roxi Rios increased the amount of bond monies from $8 Million to $15 Million.
Effective Monday, October 23, 2023, Maverick County voters will have the power to decide whether to approve or disapprove the two County Bond Propositions A and B, totaling $15 Million instead of the original $8 Million during the Early Voting Period that runs through Friday, November 3, 2023 at the Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center.
Early Voting Dates and Hours at the Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center are as following: October 23 through November 1 from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.; from November 2 to November 3 from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M.
Regular Election Day is on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. at designated County Election Precinct Polling Places.

All Maverick County registered voters are encouraged to come out and cast their ballots on the two County Bond Proposition A and B, totaling $15 Million.
In addition to the two Maverick County Bond Propositions, registered voters will have an opportunity to vote on the 14 Texas Constitutional Amendment Propositions on the ballot in the November 7, 2023 General Election.
