Maverick County Voters Defeat County Bond Propositions A for $10 Million and B for $5 Million

Maverick County Election Judge Enriqueta V. Collett announced the final unofficial election results of the November 7, 2023 Election shortly before 10 p.m., advising the public that the two Maverick County Bond Propositions A for $10 million for streets and B for $5 million for parks were soundly defeated by county voters by a 2 to 1 margin.
A total of 3,287 registered Maverick County voters cast a ballot in the November 7, 2023 Election out of more than 34,000 registered voters. A low voter turnout estimated at 10.49% participated in the November 7th Election in Maverick County by casting a ballot.
Maverick County Proposition A for $10 million for streets was defeated with a total of 2,016 votes cast Against and only 1,039 votes For the proposition.
Maverick County Proposition B for $5 million for parks was also defeated with a total of 2,067 votes cast Against and only 1,513 For the proposition.
Maverick County voters clearly made it known through their ballots that they do not want to incur additional debt that might raise their ad valorem property taxes in the future without transparency from publicly elected officials.
County voters rejected Maverick County Commissioners Court super majority composed of County Judge Ramsey English Cantu and Commissioners Roberto Ruiz, Roxi Rios, and Olga M. Ramos proposal to incur $15 million in debt through the issuance of certificates of obligations (bonds) for county streets and parks.
The voters defeat of the two Maverick County Bond Propositions are a setback for County Judge Cantu and his Commissioners Court majority whom planned to bring progress and enhance the quality of life of county citizens had the two bond propositions passed. But voters begged to differ with their plans.
This Bond Election is a reflection of the heated political election battle forthcoming in 2024 in Maverick County as the candidate registration period for county, state, and federal public offices starts on Saturday, November 11, 2023 and runs through Monday, December 11, 2023.
Among the Maverick County political offices scheduled to be on the March 5, 2024 Primary Election and on the November 5, 2024 General Election include Maverick County Sheriff, Maverick County Commissioners Precinct Nos. 1 and 3, Maverick County Attorney, Maverick County Tax-Assessor Collector, Maverick County Constable Precincts 1, 2, 3-1, 3-2, and 4, 293rd Judicial District Court, 293rd Judicial District Attorney, Texas State Representative-District 74, Texas State Senator-District 19, Party Chairpersons, Precinct Chairs, U. S. House of Representative-District 23 Texas, U. S. Senator, and others.
