2024 Maverick County Jr. Livestock Show & Sale Schedule Announced

The 2024 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show and Sale (MCJLS) schedule was announced with activities kicking-off on Saturday, January 7, 2024 at 4 p.m. with the traditional and beautiful MCJLS Pageant and continuing with other activities through January 20, 2024, said Roberto Martinez, President of the Maverick County Junior Livestock Show, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
On Saturday, January 7, 2024, the highly anticipated 2024 MCJLS Pageant will be held at 4 p.m. at the Zan Matthies Show Barn in the Maverick County Lake at Eagle Pass, Texas. Young women and men will compete for ten categories plus another four appointed titles. Among the 10 competitive titles to be judged are Little Miss and Mister MCJLS for girls and boys ages 4-6; Junior Miss and Mister MCJLS for girls and boys ages 7-9; Pre-Teen Miss and Mister MCJLS for girls and boys ages 10-12; Miss and Mister MCJLS Teen for girls and boys ages 13-15; and Miss and Mister MCJLS for girls and boys ages 16-19. Appointed titles are available for Tiny Miss and Mister MCJLS for girls and boys ages 0-1 and Toddler Miss and Mister MCJLS for girls and boys ages 2-3. The 10th Annual Jesus “Chuy” Sanchez Cowboy Breakfast will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 7:00 a.m. at the Zan Matthies Show Barn at the Maverick County Lake co-sponsored by the MCJLS and Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are on pre-sale at the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce and with any MCJLS Board of Directors at $10 and at the door for $12. You don’t want to miss this great annual Cowboy Breakfast tradition in the community. Live music, great food, and prizes will be available at the event.
The 2024 MCJLS and Sale will be held from Tuesday, January 16, 2024 through Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the Zan Matthies Show Barn at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas. The MCJLS starts on Tuesday, January 16th at 5 p.m. through 10 p.m. with the moving-in of all lambs and goats in the show plus all photography and art show entries are due on this date.
On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the 2024 MCJLS continues from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with weighing and sifting of market lambs and goats, market rabbits and meat pens, market poultry, the MCJLS Helping Hands Show, the judging of of Young Exhibitor Projects, and moving-in of market steers and hogs.
On Thursday, January 18, 2024, the 2024 MCJLS continues from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. with activities such as the food show entries due date, the weighing and sifting of market steers and swine, the judging of Out of County and Breeding Cattle and Swine, the judging of market lambs and market lamb showmanship contest, judging of the market goats and market goat showmanship contest, the MCJLS Helping Hands Show for Hogs, judging of Young Exhibitor Projects, and the selection of the grand and reserve champion goat and lamb.
On Friday, January 19, 2024, the 2024 MCJLS continues from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with activities such as the judging of market swine and market swine showmanship contest, judging of market steers and market steer showmanship contest, selection of overall senior showmanship champion, adult showmanship contest, and the selection of grand and reserve champion hog and steer.
On Saturday, January 20, 2024, the 2024 MCJLS show marquee events of the dedication of the 2024 MCJLS, recognition of the top ten buyers of 2023, recognition of the Herdsman Award, the MCJLS Sale, and the Western Dance will be held throughout the day to conclude the 2024 MCJLS.
