City of Eagle Pass Names Amy R. Gonzalez as New Chief of Police

On Tuesday, April 9, 2025, the City of Eagle Pass officially announced Captain Amy R. Gonzalez as the new and first woman Chief of Police for the Eagle Pass Police Department. Captain Gonzalez began serving as interim Police Chief after the resignation of former Chief of Police Federico Garza in December of 2024.
As a 26 year veteran of the Eagle Pass Police Department, Captain Amy R. Gonzalez’s experience brings leadership to her officers, staff, and the community. In a recent press release, Mayor Rolando Salinas informed, “we followed a deliberate and transparent process to identify the best person to lead our police department, and we are confident that Amy Gonzalez will serve our community with professionalism and integrity.” Mayor Rolando Salinas and City Manager Homero Balderas appointed Captain Amy Gonzalez, making her the first woman to serve as the Chief of Police.
In a social media post, the Eagle Pass Police Department stated, “Congratulation Chief Gonzalez, May our great lord bless you with strength, courage, wisdom, and guidance as you lead our department into this new chapter.”
