Eagle Pass Attorney Alberto M. Ramon Named Lawyer of the Year by Del Rio Association of Federal Attorneys

The Del Rio Association of Federal Attorneys (DRAFA) named Eagle Pass attorney Alberto M. Ramon as its 2025 Lawyer of the Year at its annual banquet held on Friday, May 2, 2025 in Del Rio, Texas, announced Tara D. Zehner, President of DRAFA.
DRAFA members annually vote for the Lawyer of the Year Award to honor the Lawyer that “best represents the devotion, dedication, competence, hard work, and high moral standards of a Federal Lawyer.”
Ramon was elected by his DRAFA peers for the second occasion as the Lawyer of the Year in the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, in Del Rio, Texas. He previously was named Lawyer of the Year by DRAFA, becoming the only attorney to have won the prestigious award and have his name engraved on the Lawyer of the Year Award Plaque twice, which is displayed at the United States District Courthouse in Del Rio.
Ramon is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas, earning a Juris Doctor degree. He also earned a Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He is 85 years old and has practiced law for over 50 years in the state of Texas.
Chief United States District Judge Alia Moses for the Western District of Texas and DRAFA President Tara D. Zehner presented the Lawyer of the Year Award to Ramon. Chief Judge Alia Moses congratulated Ramon for earning the Lawyer of the Year Award and his zealous advocacy on behalf of his clients with the highest moral standards.
Ramon was accompanied at the DRAFA annual banquet by his daughter and fellow attorney, Soledad M. Valenciano, her law firm partner Jim Spivey of Spivey Valenciano PLLC of San Antonio, Texas, step-daughter Julie Ann Solis and Javier Medrano, and fellow colleagues of DRAFA.
Ramon thanked his colleagues of DRAFA and federal judges and magistrates of the Del Rio Division for bestowing him the elite Lawyer of the Year Award for 2025.
The new DRAFA Board of Directors for 2025 were administered their oaths of office and installed by Chief Judge Alia Moses at the annual banquet. DRAFA Officers for 2025 are President Nitya Morales, President-Elect Holly Pavlinski, Immediate Past President Tara D. Zehner, Secretary Minerva Torres, and Treasurer Jackson Lindsey.
President Tara D. Zehner presented DRAFA’s annual report at the banquet and announced the association had awarded 13 scholarships to graduating seniors from high schools within the Del Rio Division.
DRAFA Banquet attendees enjoyed fellowship, a raffle with prizes, live music, dinner, refreshments, and all proceeds were donated to the annual scholarship fund.
