Cub Scout Pack 2543 partners with STAT Hospital for Safety Adventure
Cub Scout Pack 2543 took a big step toward earning their Personal Safety Adventure Award this week with a hands-on learning experience at STAT Specialty Hospital. The visit provided the young Scouts with vital safety knowledge, practical first aid skills, and an exciting behind-the-scenes look at how emergency care works.
The event, organized with the generous help of Javier Solis, Regional Marketing Director at STAT, gave the Scouts the chance to engage directly with medical professionals and learn what to do in various emergency situations—from minor scrapes to more serious incidents.
One of the highlights of the evening was when the Scouts each built their own personal First Aid kits, using supplies donated by STAT. The kits included bandages, antiseptic wipes, gloves, gauze, mole skin, and other essentials that they learned to use responsibly.
“It was a real joy teaching the kids about how to take action in emergencies,” said Director of Nurses Elishoel Reyes, who led the Scouts through a series of safety demonstrations. “STAT is so happy to help these young people learn what to do in emergency situations and see their confidence grow in each of them.”
During a session on wound care, Dr. Cullen Averil spoke to the Scouts about what to do when someone gets a cut. “One of the most important things is to stay calm,” he explained. “Clean the area gently, cover it to protect from infection, and always ask for help if you’re not sure what to do.”
In addition to the safety lessons, the Scouts were treated to a tour of the hospital, where they saw emergency rooms and the treatment areas that are used to save lives every day. The experience gave many of them a new appreciation for the people who work in healthcare.
To top off the evening, STAT provided a catered meal and raffle for the Scouts and their families—an unexpected treat that brought the community together and gave everyone a chance to reflect on the evening’s lessons.
The Cub Scout leaders of Pack 2543 expressed heartfelt thanks to STAT Specialty Hospital and Isabel Perez, Human Resources Director for helping coordinate the event. “It’s opportunities like this that help our Cub Scouts grow into capable, caring individuals,” they said.
As Pack 2543 continues their journey toward becoming responsible and prepared members of their community, their experience at STAT is sure to remain a memorable milestone.
