In Loving Memory of Retired Lieutenant Moises “Moe” Pena

Eagle Pass and Middle Rio Grande Region citizens, law enforcement agencies and officers, first responders, family, and friends mourn the passing of Retired Eagle Pass Police Department Lieutenant-Detective Moises “Moe” Pena, age 61, on Monday, September 15, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas after courageously battling an illness and with his wife and family at his bedside.
Lieutenant Pena served over 25 years with the Eagle Pass Police Department with distinction, serving in several capacities including as a Patrol Officer, Investigator, Patrol Lieutenant, and as an undercover Police Officer assigned to the regional Drug Task Force. According to the Eagle Pass Police Department, retired Lieutenant Pena “honorably served the City of Eagle Pass throughout his distinguished career as Patrol Lieutenant overseeing all uniform personnel. We are forever grateful for his many years of dedicated service and commitment to our community.”
Born on December 24, 1963 in Crystal City, Texas, Lieutenant Pena loved his adopted community of Eagle Pass and surrounding Middle Rio Grande Region serving as a community volunteer with many organizations and groups, particularly as a Coach of youth baseball and football teams—mentoring and shaping the lives of hundreds of young children in the community.
Lieutenant Pena earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues in law enforcement, first responders, public officials, community leaders, parents, children, and organizations for his unselfish dedication and commitment to improving the quality of life in the community.
Lieutenant Pena is survived by his beloved wife, Irma Pena, his children Vanessa Pena Rendon, David Pena, Joshua Pena, Eileen Hernandez, Diego, and Raul, as well as his brother, Michael Pena, and sister, Martha Pena Weiss. He is also lovingly remembered by his surviving grandchildren Justin, Isaac, and Evan Rendon, and Anwar Michael Farah.
Lieutenant Pena enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, sports, and sharing quality time with family, friends, and colleagues.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, and all persons whom he touched in his life, cementing a legacy as a genuine community leader, mentor, coach, provider, and citizen.
Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced in the immediate future.
