Maverick County Hospital District Receives “Othli Award” from Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass

The Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass, Texas under the leadership of Consul Vivian Juarez Mondragon announced that the Mavericks County Hospital District (MCHD) has been named the 2025 recipient of the prestigious Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs’ highest civil award presented to a foreign individual or entity for extraordinary contributions to the Mexican immigrant community abroad on Friday, September 12, 2025 at the 215th Anniversary of the “Grito de Independencia” ceremony held at Plaza San Juan in downtown Eagle Pass, Texas.
Consul Juarez Mondragon stated the Maverick County Hospital District had made significant contributions to the public health of thousands of Mexican immigrants within the Eagle Pass and Middle Rio Grande Region during 2024-2025 as well as participated in monthly public health clinics and programs sponsored or hosted by the Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass, Texas. “The Othli Award is granted by the Institute of Mexicans Living Abroad (IME) and is focused on strengthening relations with the Mexican community that resides outside of Mexico,” added Consul Juarez Mondragon.
Maverick County Hospital District Board of Trustees President Adolfo Olivares stated that “the Board, Administration, healthcare providers, and staff are greatly honored and privileged to receive this prestigious recognition from the Mexican government through its Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass. We are passionate about our mission to provide healthcare services to the indigent residents of Maverick County and surrounding areas. We cherish our public health relationship with the Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass’s “Ventanilla de Salud” free public health clinics and programs. We’re working diligently in bringing more specialist physicians and services to our growing Maverick County community,” added Olivares.
“The Maverick County Hospital District shares the same mission as the Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass’s “Ventanilla de Salud clinics and services to provide healthcare services to all indigent residents of Maverick County and greatly enjoy the professionalism and courtesies extended to our patients and personnel by Consul Vivian Juarez Mondragon and her staff at the Consulate of Mexico at Eagle Pass,” said Nestor Bonilla, Chief Executive Officer at MCHD.
The “Othli Award” is presented annually by each of Mexico’s Embassies and Consulates Abroad and recognizes individuals or entities that aid, empower, or positively affect the lives of Mexicans nationals that reside abroad.
In Eagle Pass, Consul Vivian Juarez Mondragon awarded her first Othli Award last year to community volunteer extraordinaire Mike Garcia for his unselfish dedication and commitment to assisting Mexican immigrants through international immigrant relief organizations.
