The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Breaks Ground on New Sports Complex
Multi-sport facility will expand recreational opportunities in Eagle Pass community
PRESS RELEASE
WHAT: The Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas will break ground on the Ronald Reagan Sports Complex, a 10-acre recreational facility located on its reservation. The facility will be funded and operated by the Tribe and built by Hellas, a company specializing in sports facility construction.
The facility, accessible to tribal and non-tribal members,
will be surrounded by a walking trail. It will also feature tennis, pickleball, volleyball and a covered basketball court and include football, baseball, and softball fields.
As part of their commitment to investing in local youth, the tribe will offer educational and after-school programming, and athletic instructors will help youth develop their skills.
WHY: The complex will improve health outcomes and access to recreational facilities in Eagle Pass and surrounding communities. Maverick County ranked second-lowest in Texas for adult recreational activity in 2024 and recorded the eighth-highest diabetes rate in 2025.
With most parks and facilities located in the central and northern parts of the city, the complex offers closer access for Tribal members who have limited transportation options. Native Americans are more likely to lack reliable transportation compared with other racial and ethnic groups.
WHEN: Sept. 4, 2025, 9-9:30 a.m.
WHERE: 25 Standing Rock Lane, Eagle Pass, Texas 78852
WHO: In order of appearance:
