Both the City of Eagle Pass, Texas City Council and Maverick County Commissioners Court approved the terms of an agreement between the City and County for fire protection and EMS services to county residents by the Eagle Pass Fire Department at separate special meetings held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 subject to being signed by both parties.
Although the agreement was announced publicly by both governmental entities, the specific terms of the agreement have yet to be publicly disclosed until both parties have executed the agreement. Upon signing of the agreement, a press conference will be held to announce the specific terms of the parties’ agreement.
Many concerned taxpayers expressed interest in knowing the specific terms of the City and County agreement, citing the need for open and transparent government in both entities. What is known is that the parties have reached an agreement on a specific dollar amount to be paid by Maverick County to the City of Eagle Pass in exchange for providing fire protection and EMS services by the Eagle Pass Fire Department for the next fiscal year, 2025-2026, including the purchase and exchange of certain equipment to fulfill the services required in the agreement.
A formal announcement of the terms of the City and County’s fire protection and EMS services is expected to be made next week after both parties have executed the agreement.
County residents are assured that they will continue to receive fire protection and EMS services from the Eagle Pass Fire Department following November 1, 2025 and for the fiscal year of 2025=2026, according to Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantu. Cantu stated “Commissioners Court priority is to provide the necessary emergency and fire protection services of all Maverick County residents and an agreement to that effect has been reached without the fear of losing said services after November 1, 2025.” Cantu added that the County and City will continue to work together on this project and other mutually beneficial projects to the community.
