On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the Eagle Pass Police Department invited residents to take part in the city’s annual National Night Out event. This free, family-friendly celebration took place at the Patsy Winn Sports Complex, located at 1325 Patsy Winn Blvd., from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In an exclusive interview, Police Chief Amy Gonzalez discussed the importance of hosting community events like National Night Out.
“It’s important to build community trust within law enforcement agencies,” explained Chief Gonzalez. “It provides neighborhood engagement and education.”
The event offered residents an opportunity to meet local officers, learn about public safety initiatives, and engage directly with those who serve the community every day.
To maintain focus on community connection, no politically affiliated booths or vendors of any kind were permitted at the event.
This year’s celebration featured information booths, personal safety and education resources, emergency vehicle displays, live demonstrations, and music. Families also enjoyed free hot dogs while supplies lasted. The crowd cheered as talented dancers from Liberty Elementary, Pete Gallego Elementary, Glass Elementary, and ECC performed throughout the evening.

Various law enforcement agencies and organizations—including the Texas Department of Public Safety, Eagle Pass Fire Department, Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Tribal Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens were present to provide information about how their departments support the Eagle Pass community.
“Look around at everyone who contributes to our safety,” said Eagle Pass City Councilwoman Jessica Ramon. “Thanks to these dedicated entities, Eagle Pass is a safer place.”
During the event, Police Chief Amy Gonzalez was presented with a proclamation by Councilwoman Ramon, officially declaring October 8th as National Night Out in the City of Eagle Pass.
“This is a true testament that we can come together as a community with our law enforcement agencies,” said Chief Gonzalez. “Enjoy it, community, because this one is for you.”
Guests were provided with free hot dogs and refreshments, prizes and gifts, games and activities for students, live music, DJ music, dance, and lots of helpful safety tips and information for a safe and healthy community.
Additionally, local public health entities such as the Maverick County Hospital District and other agencies attended and offered helpful wellness and good health information and services.
Everyone had a great time and learned about the importance of collaboration and trust between the community and first responder agencies.
