Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Shooting Claims Two People and Injures Five More

Shortly after thousands of Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino patrons had enjoyed participating in a free giveaway raffle of a luxurious Mercedes Benz motor vehicle, a lone gunman outside the casino parking area opened fire with a semi-automatic assault rifle upon the entrance of the casino at approximately 11:48 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025 in Eagle Pass, Texas, claiming two lives and injuring five additional people.
As the assailant sprayed the casino entrance with bullets, patrons ran for cover and sought to hide from the surprise assault but not before two persons were shot and killed and five more individuals received wounds from the gunfire.
Immediately upon gunfire erupting outside the casino, the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino security and Kickapoo Tribal Police took defensive measures to protect the patrons and secure the premises while attempting to locate the source of the gunfire.
The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 telephone call at 11:48 p.m. on Saturday, September 27th, about a shooting at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, said Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber.
Tragically, two casino patrons were mortally wounded, one male individual died at the scene while a female was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center where she died at the hospital. Five additional persons also received bullet wounds from the spray of bullets. Some of the injured persons had to be airlifted by helicopter to San Antonio medical facilities for treatment of their injuries.
Law enforcement agencies such as the Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, Eagle Pass Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, U. S. Border Patrol, U. S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Eagle Pass Fire Department joined the Kickapoo Tribal Police Department and Casino Security to secure and investigate the tragic incident. Texas Rangers and the FBI were also called upon.
One of the victims killed in the incident was Eagle Passan Marcus “Mark” Antley, a retired U. S. Customs and Border Protection Officer, whom died at the scene of the casino. His wife, Margarita “Mague” Duenes Antley was also injured with a bullet striking one of her legs. She is recovering from her wound.
The second victim was Alicia “Daniela” Sanchez of Carrizo Springs, Dimmit County, Texas, a mother of five children, whom died at the medical center.
A 59 year old female is in critical condition from her bullet wounds in a San Antonio, Texas medical facility.
The alleged suspect assailant fled the scene in a black Nissan Frontier pickup truck. After an extensive search and investigation, the suspect was located by the Texas Department of Public Safety with the use of the state’s License Plate Reading (LPR) surveillance system who tracked him in or near Stockdale, Wilson County, Texas. DPS officers sought to detain the suspect at a convenience store, but he fled on his vehicle and a tactical procedure was used to stop his vehicle after a brief chase, having to use a Taser gun to detain him.
The suspect, Keryan Rashad Jones, age 34, was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Detention Center on Sunday, September 28, 2025. The Kickapoo Tribal Police Department requested the suspect be extradited to Maverick County to face charges for the deadly assault. Jones has been charged with two counts of capital murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
A Maverick County Justice of the Peace Judge magistrated Jones and placed a bond totaling $4.5 million, including a $1.5 million bond for each count of capital murder (two) and a bond of $300,000 for each count of assault with a deadly weapon (five). Jones remain detained at the Maverick County Tom Bowles Detention Center, awaiting indictment by a grand jury. The 293rd Judicial District Attorney Office is prosecuting the case after its investigation.
A suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
