The $7.5 million 95 room La Quinta Inn-Hawthorn Extended Stay Suites Hotel was initially announced at a press conference held on December 6, 2022 by former Mayor Rolando Salinas and former Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo together with Mr. & Mrs. Andres Oyervides, principal owners of Eagle Pass Hospitality Group, L. L. C. Both the City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County provided a Chapter 380 and 381, respectively, tax abatement agreement to Eagle Pass Hospitality Group, L. L. C. for the development of this new economic development project in the community.
Former Eagle Pass-Maverick County Economic Development Alliance Executive Director Dr. Judith Canales assisted Maverick County Commissioners Court in negotiating the Chapter 381 Tax Abatement agreement with the hotel project owners while former Eagle Pass Economic Development Department Director Arturo Marquez advised the City of Eagle Pass with the Chapter 380 Tax Abatement agreement.
The newly-opened La Quinta Inn-Hawthorn Extended Stay Suites Hotel in Eagle Pass enjoys scenic views of the Eagle Pass Golf Course, the two City of Eagle Pass International Bridges, the Rio Grande River, Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, and sits on the historic grounds of Fort Duncan, founded in 1849 as a United States Army military fort on the United States-Mexico border.
The new hotel development offers 30 state of the art extended stay suites with kitchenettes on the Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham part of the development and 65 contemporary modern hotel rooms on the La Quinta Inn part of the joint hotel project.
The new hotel development offers complimentary breakfast to guests, a business conference center, a fitness center, an outdoor swimming pool, and professional service staff members for the enjoyment of the guests. The rooms are decorated with beautiful earth tone colors resembling the Southwest together with blue and orange interior decorations to highlight the Eagle Pass community.
The new hotel also offers two electric vehicle charging stations for guests during their stay at the hotel, a first in the community.
The new economic development project is a great boost to the Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras, Coahuila economies and tourism. The addition of 95 new hotel rooms in Eagle Pass will allow the community to attract larger regional, state, and national conventions and tourism.
