AT & T Texas Director of External and Legislative Affairs, Carlos Martinez, joined State Representative Heriberto “Eddie” Morales, Jr. on Monday, December 1, 2025 in donating up to 65 refurbished laptop computers to Eagle Pass HEROES students at a ceremony held at the International Center for Trade in Eagle Pass, Texas.
The donation of the refurbished laptop computers is part of AT & T’s initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT & T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030. This includes distributing more than 23,000 computers to students and their families across Texas since 2021.
According to the U. S. Census Bureau data, millions nationwide still don’t have access to the internet or connected devices needed to fully participate in the online world, an issue known as as the digital divide.
Also present at the December 1st computer giveaway event in Eagle Pass were Wendy Maurer, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Eagle Pass HEROES and Hellen Martinez-Morales of South Texas All-Abilities Center (STAAC) of Eagle Pass.
The recipients of the computers are students in Eagle Pass with physical or mental disabilities and members of Eagle Pass HEROES or STAAC. The recipients were pre-selected by the two organizations.
All computer recipients were grateful and appreciative of the generous donation of a laptop computer by AT & T and Compudopt.
