Eagles shutout Laredo United South 21-0

The Eagle Pass High School Eagles shutout the Laredo United South High School Panthers 21-0 on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the Laredo United Independent School District Student Activity Complex in an important District 29-5A game. The Eagles improve to 1-1 in District 29-5A standings and 2-3 overall in the season with the victory over Laredo United South.
During the first quarter, both the Eagles and Panthers defenses dominated the game holding each other scoreless.
In the second quarter, the stout Eagles defense pinned the Panthers deep in their territory when the Panthers punter kicked a five yard punt after a bad snap from center giving the Eagles excellent field position at the Panthers 28 yard line.
The Eagles young offensive unit capitalized on their great field position taking only four plays to punch the football into the Panthers end zone for the first score of the game on a four yard touchdown scamper by sophomore Eagles quarterback Ty Chisum and the point after attempt was good giving the Eagles a 7 to 0 lead with two minutes remaining before halftime. The Eagles regrouped during halftime making offensive and defensive adjustments.
In the third-quarter, the Eagles scored their second touchdown marching 65 yards on nine plays on a 30 yard touchdown pass from Ty Chisum to Eagles wide receiver R.J. Ruiz and the extra point attempt was good taking a 14 to 0 lead with almost five minutes left in the period.
The Eagles secured the game with a third touchdown in the fourth quarter engineering a 90 yard drive into the Panthers end zone culminating on a 24 yard scramble by Eagles quarterback Ty Chisum and the point after attempt was good with over eight minutes left in the final stanza giving the Eagles an insurmountable 21 to 0 lead.
The mighty Eagles defense rose to the occasion as has been the case all season holding Panthers standout tailback Simba Ijeoma to only four yards on 24 carries preserving the shutout and important District 29-5A win, 21 to 0.
The Eagles next play the Laredo LBJ High School Wolves led by native Eagle Passan and former Eagles head coach Oki Villasenor on Saturday, October 13, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at home in the EPISD Student Activity Center in an important District 29-5A game.
