Gallego Welcomes Cynthia Martinez and Julie Morton to Staff in Texas

San Antonio, Texas – Today, U.S. Representative Pete P. Gallego (D-Alpine) welcomed Cynthia Martinez and Julie Morton as field representatives in Eagle Pass and Alpine. The two join a committed team that works tirelessly for Texans, covering some or all of 29 counties which make up the 23rd District of Texas. Since 2013, U.S. Rep. Gallego’s staff has helped resolve hundreds of cases and recovered more than $2 million in benefits for constituents.

“I welcome Cynthia and Julie to the team, and know they will deliver for our communities in southwest Texas,” said U.S. Rep. Gallego. “Their experience and commitment working with their communities is a perfect match for our dynamic team. Their additions are great news for all.”

Cynthia Martinez, an Eagle Pass native, obtained her associate’s degree from Laredo Community College in 2012. Before becoming a field representative, she worked in social services at Buckner Children and Family Services, a nonprofit organization with presence in Maverick, Val Verde, Webb and Zapata counties. In that position, she was charged with facilitating and distributing funds for low-income families and vulnerable children.

“I am proud to help the community that saw me grow,” said Cynthia Martinez about joining U.S. Rep. Gallego’s team. “This is a great opportunity to give back to my hometown.” She will be based in Eagle Pass and cover the surrounding counties in Terrell, Schleicher, Crockett, Sutton, Val Verde, Kinney, Edwards, Dimmit and Zavala.

Julie Morton, a Valentine native, attended Texas Tech University and Sul Ross State University before starting at 12-year career in hospitality. For the past three years, she was a hotel manager and catering and events manager at The Holland Hotel in Alpine.

“I will use the skills acquired over the years – both professionally and personally – to make a difference in the lives of people,” said Julie Morton of her position with U.S. Rep. Gallego’s office. She will be based in Alpine and cover 11 counties in West Texas.
