San Antonio, Texas–The mighty Eagle Pass Little League Majors (12 Under) Softball All-Stars advanced to the Little League Texas West State Championship after defeating Corpus Christi Laguna Little League All-Stars 9-2 in the loser’s bracket on Saturday, July 19, 2014, in their third game of the tournament. Eagle Pass faces undefeated Waco Robinson Little League All-Stars in the state championship.
In their first game of the tournament on Thursday, July 17th, the Eagle Pass All-Stars fell to Corpus Christi Laguna 12-7 as a result of having an incomplete team as five team members were playing in Florida in a national tournament under a different softball league, leaving Eagle Pass short-handed with five starters missing. However, the remaining nine players who participated played an outstanding game, battling Corpus Christi Laguna to the end before falling. The loss dropped Eagle Pass to the loser’s bracket.
In their second game, Eagle Pass crushed Ralls All-Stars 25-3 on Friday, July 18th, eliminating Ralls from the tournament with their second loss while setting a rematch between Eagle Pass and Corpus Christi Laguna on Saturday, July 19th. Eagle Pass’ nine remaining players played an excellent game against a tough Ralls All-Star team, earning the win to remain alive in the State Championship tournament.
In the winner’s bracket, Waco Robinson defeated Ralls 17-0 and Corpus Christi Laguna 7-4 to qualify for the state championship game on July 20th against Eagle Pass.
Eagle Pass needs to defeat Waco Robinson twice to win the Texas West State Championship and earn the right to advance to the Little League Southwestern Regionals Championship because Waco Robinson is undefeated. On the other hand, Waco Robinson only needs to defeat Eagle Pass once to win the state championship and advance to Regionals.
The state championship game(s) between Waco Robinson and Eagle Pass should be exciting as Eagle Pass is back to full team strength with three of its five players having returned from Florida to San Antonio.
Team members include Kaylynne Ruiz, Alexia Fuentes, Kaytlyn Amaya, Romy Flores, Lesley Hernandez, Kiana Diaz, Alex Martinez, Jasmin Ballones, Martha Garcia, Ariana Soto, Lee Ann Dunn, Briana Soto, Leslie Martinez, and Ashley Urbina.
Team Manager is Enrique Soto and Assistant Coaches are Jesus Ballones and Lee Roy Dunn.
The Eagle Pass Business Journal wishes the Eagle Pass Little League Majors Softball All-Stars best of luck against Waco Robinson in the Texas West State Championship.
