Mavericks Running Back Deion Alonso named Co-Offensive Most Valuable Player in District 29-5A Football

Eagle Pass C. C. Winn High School Mavericks standout senior running back Deion Alonso, who rushed over a 1,000 yards during the 2014 season, was named the Co-Offensive Most Valuable Player by the District 29-5A Head Football Coaches, announced Mavericks Head Football Coach Eric Villasenor.
“This is a great honor for Deion to be recognized by the District head football coaches as one of two offensive most valuable players in the district during 2014,” said Coach Villasenor. Alonso also was named as the Second Team Specialist Returner.
Mavericks senior standout two-way player, Chris Aranda, was also recognized by the District 29-5A Head Football Coaches as the Co-Most Outstanding Outside Linebacker and a First Team All-District Running Back, a rare feat to receive All-District recognition in both defense and offense. “This is a great honor for Chris to be named the Co-Most Outstanding Outside LInebacker on defense as well as a First Team Running Back during the 2014 season,” said Coach Villasenor.
Six Mavericks were named to the 2014 District 29-5A All-District First Team Offense including sophomore wide receiver Julio Ruiz, sophomore tight end Jose Rodriguez, senior offensive guard Robert Richardson, senior offensive tackle Marco Villarreal, senior kicker Dante Valdes, and senior running back Chris Aranda.
Four Mavericks were named to the 2014 District 29-5A All-District First Team Defense including senior defensive tackle Xavier Lopez, junior inside linebacker Ryan Pike, senior defensive cornerback Jonathan Villarreal, and senior safety Rene Rodriguez.
Six Mavericks received 2014 District 29-5A All-District Second Team Offense honors including senior quarterback Juan Elizondo, senior wide receiver Brandon Sanchez, senior offensive center Mike De La Cruz, senior offensive guard Ray Riza, senior offensive tackle Nick Hernandez, and senior return specialist Deion Alonso.
Five Mavericks received 2014 District 29-5A All-District Second Team Defense honors including senior defensive tackle Abel Flores, senior defensive end David Garza, senior inside linebacker Everardo De Los Santos, junior outside linebacker Ramiro Valdez, and senior defensive safety Jesus Vallejo.
Named unanimously as the 2014 District 29-5A Football Most Valuable Player was Somerset Bulldog senior standout quarterback Koy Detmer while C. C. Winn Mavericks senior standout running back Deion Alonso and Southside Cardinals sophomore running back Matt Collier were named Co-Offensive Most Valuable Players, Medina Valley Panthers defensive lineman Joseph Martinez was named Defensive Most Valuable Player, Southside Cardinals freshman offensive lineman Robert Garcia was named the Offensive Newcomer of the Year, and Southside Cardinals freshman safety Johnny Herrera was named the Defensive Newcomer of the Year.
Recognized as the 2014 District 29-5A Football Most Outstanding Offensive Players are Uvalde Coyotes senior Jerry Almaraz as Most Outstanding Quarterback, Somerset Bulldogs junior Josh Avila as the Most Outstanding Running Back, Uvalde Coyotes senior Drew Kirkpatrick as the Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, Southside Cardinals senior Diego Avila as the Most Outstanding Tight End, Uvalde Coyotes junior Trae Garcia and Laredo Cigarroa Toros junior Ricky Carrillo as the Co-Most Outstanding Slot Receivers, and Somerset Bulldogs senior Justin Guerra as the Most Outstanding Wide Receiver.
Recognized as the 2014 District 29-5A Football Most Outstanding Defensive Players are Somerset Bulldogs senior Jacob Ybarra as the Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman, Laredo Nixon Mustangs senior Chris Ortiz and Southside Cardinals senior Diego Avila as the Co-Most Outstanding Inside Linebackers, C.C. Winn Mavericks senior Chris Aranda, Medina Valley Panthers junior Kyle Moos, and Southside Cardinals senior Eliud Mendez as the Co-Most Outstanding Outside Linebackers, Uvalde Coyotes junior Ernest Ortiz as the Most Outstanding Cornerback, and Uvalde Coyotes senior Corbin Cargil as the Most Outstanding Safety.
Named as First Team Specialists are Uvalde Coyotes junior Elias Garza as Punter, C.C. Winn Mavericks senior Dante Valdes as Kicker, and Laredo Martin Tigers junior Juan Valdivia as Returner.
Recognized as Second Team Specialists are Laredo Martin Tigers senior Jesus Ortegon as Punter, Laredo Cigarroa Toros senior Jorge Rangel as Kicker, and C.C. Winn Mavericks senior Deion Alonso, Uvalde Coyotes sophomore Damien Mendoza, and Southside Cardinals senior Brandon Herrera as Returners.
