Adolfo Olivares Sworn-In as New Board Member of Maverick County Hospital District

Retired educator and administrator, Adolfo “Fito” Olivares, was officially sworn-in as a new Board of Director of the Maverick County Hospital District on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, filling the long-time vacant position created by the resignation of former Board Chairman Joaquin L. Rodriguez and bringing the Hospital District Board of Directors to a complete five members.
Olivares was sworn-in by Hospital District Medical Financial Assistance Program Director and Texas Notary Public Kathy D. Vidal before a small audience attending the October 25th Board meeting, including Olivares’ lovely wife.
Former Board Chairman Joaquin L. Rodriguez resigned on May 26, 2015 after being elected unopposed to a second year term and as Chairman in November 2014.
The Hospital District Bylaws require that the appointment of a new Board of Director must be by unanimous consent of the remaining Board members.
Olivares was approved by the unanimous consent of the Hospital District Board of Directors on September 27, 2016 with Board member Ricardo “Rica” Calderon making the motion to appoint Olivares and Board Secretary-Treasurer Humberto Duran seconded the motion and Board Chairman Juan Manuel “Chuco” Farias and Vice-Chairman Ronald Hixson also agreed to Olivares’ appointment after a one year and five months search for a candidate to fill this vacancy.
Olivares immediately took his place among the Board of Directors to tackle the October 25th Regular Meeting Agenda among salutations from the Board of Directors.
Olivares served 31 years as a school principal, teacher and administrator with the Eagle Pass Independent School District and another 15 years as a public administrator, including Mayor Pro-Tem of the Eagle Pass City Council, Assistant City Manager, and Parks and Recreation Department Director.
