Maverick County $8.5 Million Bond Election Starts April 24th-May 2nd for Early Voting, May 6th Regular Election Day

Maverick County voters will go to the election polls on the County of Maverick’s request to issue $8.5 Million in Certificates of Obligation (Bonds) starting on Monday, April 24, 2017 with the commencement of a two week Early Voting Period running through May 2, 2017, followed by the Regular Election Day on Saturday, May 6th.

The only issue for Maverick County voters is whether to vote “For” or ” Against” the issuance of $8.5 Million in Certificates of Obligations (Bonds) by the County of Maverick for the design, construction, repair and improvement of county roads (including utilities relocations and related bridge and drainage improvements), acquiring, constructing, renovating, improving, and equipping county parks and recreational facilities, constructing improvements for flood control purposes such as landscaping, sidewalk, road and bridge improvements, acquisition of Technology improvements, and purchase of equipment machinery, land, Right of way, materials and supplies, and the payment of professional services related to the design, construction, project management, and financing of these projects. Maverick County proposes to pay the $8.5 Million Bonds by pledging the revenues of the Maverick County Landfill owned and operated by the Maverick County Solid Waste Authority.

Maverick County Taxpayers forced an election on Maverick County’s $8.5 Million Bonds issuance by filing and having approved a signature petition of county voters requesting a bond election.

Some Maverick County Taxpayers oppose the County’s issuance of the $8.5 Million Bonds because it will increase Maverick County’s debt to over $40 Million overall, placing a heavy debt burden on Maverick County Taxpayers for many years to come, and that Maverick County Commissioners Court are not transparent with County financial affairs and seek these funds to pursue their personal political interests instead of taxpayers. Other taxpayers support the issuance of the $8.5 Million Bonds to improve much needed public services such as pavement of many county streets and roads.

Early Voting will be from April 24th through May 2nd at the Maverick County Commissioners Courtroom from 8 a.m. To 5 p.m., located at 500 Quarry Street, in Eagle Pass, Texas. Voting on Monday, April 24th, will have extended hours from 8 a.m. To 8 p.m.  Other extended hours during Early Voting will be held on Saturday, April 29th, from 7 a.m. To 7 p.m. and on Monday, May 1st from 8 a.m. To 8 p.m.

Regular Election Day is on Saturday, May 6th, from 7 a.m. To 7 p.m. at designated polling places.

Designated polling places for May 6th regular Election Day include: Precinct 1A, 1B, and 1C at Memorial Junior High; Precinct 2A and 2B at San Luis Elementary; Precinct 2C at Rosita Valley Elementary; Precinct 2D at El Indio Community Center; Precinct 3A and 3B at Seco Mines Elementary; Precinct 3C at Quemado Community Center; Precincts 4A, 4B, and 4C at Eagle Pass High School Girls Gym; and Precinct 4D at Henry B. Gonzalez Elementary.

Maverick County has slightly over 30,000 registered voters. All registered voters are encouraged to come out and vote.
