Maverick County Couple Found Dead With Gunshot Wounds On Dahlstrom Road Near Dos Republicas Coal Mine

Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber announced that a longtime Maverick County couple, Ernesto and Maria Ibarra of Eagle Pass, Texas, were found deceased with a gunshot wound to their chest on Friday, October 6, 2017, at approximately 12 Nooon-12:30 P.M. near the Union Pacific Railroad Tracks at a ranch close to the Dos Republicas Coal Partnership Eagle Pass Mine.

Sheriff Schmerber stated that Maverick County Justice of the Peace Precint 3A-B David Castaneda was summoned to pronounced the two persons dead and order an autopsy report with the Bexar County Medical Examiners Office in San Antonio, Texas.

Sheriff Schmerber noted that the preliminary investigation reflects the possibility of a murder-suicide case.

Sheriff Schmerber noted that Texas Ranger Jose Sanchez was called upon to take over the investigation regarding the deaths of these two well known Maverick Countians.

Maverick Countians mourn the loss of Ernesto and Maria Ibarra as they were well-liked and highly regarded in the community.

Texas Ranger Jose Sanchez will continue the investigation and file a final report in the near future upon completion of his investigation.
