Eagle Pass Man Arrested For Theft of Railroad Cargo
Friday, February 9, 2018, 4:35 AM: Eagle Pass Police Officers and Auto Theft Investigators in conjunction with Railroad Police Officers conducted an investigation which led to a traffic stop on a 2014 white Ford F-150 pickup truck by Fifth Street and the railroad crossing. The two male occupants of the pickup were contract employees for a company utilized by Union Pacific Railroad at the time of the stop.
The investigation revealed the employees were involved with the theft of auto accessories to include headlights, taillights, vehicle grills, bumpers and tailgates from vehicles being transported into the United States via rail cars.
Formal charges for theft of cargo over $1500.00 but less than $10,000.00 were filed against 24 year old Jose Eduardo Lira of Eagle Pass who was presented before a magistrate and remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a $7000 bond.
The second male was not charged in this incident. Numerous auto accessories removed from vehicles within the rail cars were recovered at the time of the stop.
