Eagle Pass Man Killed in Head-On Collision with a Tree

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department announced that an Eagle Pass, Texas man, Gerardo Zuniga, age 61, died from the injuries he sustained in a head-on automobile collision with a tree on Eidson Road and Memo Robinson Drive in southern Maverick County, Texas on Sunday, April 8, 2018.

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department received a telephone call reporting an automobile accident with a tree on Eidson Road. The Sheriff Department Deputies responded and found a blue Dodge Dakota Pick-Up Truck struck a large tree on Eidson Road and located the driver of the truck inside the cabin, summoning the Eagle Pass Fire Department Ambulance to the scene.

The driver of the pick-up truck was transported to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center Emergency Room for treatment of his serious injuries, but passed away shortly after arriving to the medical center from his injuries.

Medical personnel advised law enforcement that Zuniga had high levels of alcohol in his blood tests.  Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor of the fatal accident.

Zuniga was driving north on Eidson Road towards Eagle Pass when suddenly he lost control of the pick-up truck and smashed into the tree head-on with his truck.

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the fatal accident.
