The purpose of the annual Candles for Life Walkathon is to raise funds for Eagle Pass and Maverick County citizens who have been diagnosed with active cancer in order to pay some of their expenses for medications, medical treatment, travel and hotel expenses while undergoing cancer treatment.
Candles for Life is exclusively a volunteer member charitable organization composed of concerned Maverick County citizens wishing to assist and lend a helping hand to individuals in the community with active cancer defray some of their expenses incurred while seeking treatment.
Many Maverick County citizens are either uninsured, low to middle income individuals, or who cannot afford the high costs associated with treatment. All funds raised (100%) during the annual Candles for Life Walkathon are awarded to deserving Maverick County citizens as stipends and do not go toward paying any administrative or overhead expenses of any out of state organization.
