Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu Receives Othli Award from Mexico

Mexican Consul General Ismael Naveja Macias of Eagle Pass, Texas presented Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu with the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs Othli Award at a ceremony held on Friday, November 1, 2019.
The Othli Award is an honor the Mexican Government gives to citizens who have given assistance to Mexican citizens and/or promoted their culture.
The Othli Award is administered by the Mexican Secretariate of Foreign Affairs. It is given annually by individual consulates and consists of a medallion, silver rosette and a diploma. The name of the award comes from the Nahuatl world which means “road” or “path.” The depicts an Aztec god cutting grass with a machete. The symbolism of the name alludes to the idea of opening a path for others. The award is one of the highest honors given to citizens living outside of Mexico.
The Othli Award recognizes inviduals who have aided, empowered or positively affected the lives of Mexican nationals in the United States and other countries.
Mexican Consul Ismael Naveja Macias stated that Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu has promoted Mexican nationals and their culture during his tenure as Mayor of Eagle Pass. Consul Naveja Macias added that Mayor Cantu has done an extraordinary job as a public servant in improving cultural, social and economic ties between Mexican nationals and American citizens.
Mayor Cantu stated that he was deeply honored to be named a recipient of the prestigious Othli Award from the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs and thanked Mexican Consul General Ismael Naveja Macias for nominating and presenting him the award.
Over 75 local public dignitaries, business and civic leaders attended the Othli Award Ceremony for Mayor Cantu on November 1st at a local event center in Eagle Pass.
