The thundering Eagle Pass Winn High School Mavericks fell to the visiting San Antonio Southwest High School Dragons 21-3 in a District 14-5A, Division I, football game on Friday, November 8, 2019, at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Cozel Foster-Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Mavericks battled valiantly and courageously against the Dragons, but the Dragons defense stifled the Mavericks offense during the game, limiting them to only three points.
With the loss, the Mavericks conclude their 2019 football season with an overall season record of 3-7 and 1-5 in District action.
The Mavericks seniors who have been with the football program during the past two to four years have established a solid foundation for future success as the junior varsity and freshman teams enjoyed winning seasons. The Mavericks future is in great hands and will be heard from again next year.
Congratulations to the Mavericks seniors and all players, coaches, parents, and loyal Maverick Nation aficionados for their outstanding sportsmanship and representation of our community during the 2019 football season.
During halftime Homecoming festivities, Winn students named R.J. Martinez and Lupita Farias, representing the Silverline Dance Team, as the 2019 Homecoming King and Queen.
