Maverick County 2020 Races Shaping Up as December 9th Registration Deadline Nears

Maverick County Democratic Party Chairperson Juanita V. Martinez announced the list of candidates that have officially registered with her office for a Maverick County position in the March 3, 2020 Primary Election.
For Maverick County Sheriff, incumbent Sheriff Tom Schmerber registered on November 18, 2019 for a third four year term while no other candidates have filed as of press time on November 25th. There are rumors that one or more candidates are deliberating whether to challenge Sheriff Schmerber, but none to date have filed.
For Maverick County Attorney, former County Attorney Jaime “AJ” Iracheta has filed his candidacy on November 9, 2019. Current County Attorney Gloria E. Hernandez has not yet filed her candidacy as of press time on November 25th, but does have her campaign signs already posted all around the county.
For Maverick County Tax-Assessor-Collector, incumbent Tax Assessor Collector Isamari Sanchez Villarreal has already filed for re-election on November 22, 2019 while no other challengers have surfaced yet.
In the Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 3 race, local community volunteer Olga Ramos has filed her candidacy on November 25, 2019 to challenge incumbent Commissioner Pete Venegas, who has not yet registered for re-election as of press time on November 25th despite having his campaign signs posted across Precinct 3.
For Maverick County Commissioner Precinct 1 race, no candidates have yet officially registered despite incumbent Precinct 1 Commissioner Jerry Morales plastering the county with his campaign signs for re-election. Morales has not filed as of press time on November 25th.
In the Maverick County Constable Precinct 1 race, local law enforcement officer Jose Duran filed his candidacy on November 16, 2019 while incumbent Rudy Valdez has not filed as of press time on November 25th despite posting campaign signs for re-election.
For Maverick County Constable Precinct 2, local reserve deputy officer Denise Cantu filed her candidacy on November 9, 2019, local police officer Alberto “Beto” De La Torre filed his candidacy on November 9, 2019, and local security officer Ernie Leila filed his candidacy too on November 25, 2019.
In the Maverick County Constable Precinct 4 race, incumbent Constable Jose Regalado, Jr. filed his candidacy for re-election on November 19, 2020 and local police officer Hector “Big Rod” Rodriguez filed his candidacy on November 23, 2019.
In other political races affecting Maverick County, Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu and Eagle Pass City Attorney Designee Heriberto “Eddie” Morales filed their respective candidacies for Texas House of Representatives District 74 in Austin, Texas; for the 293rd Judicial District Attorney race, incumbent District Attorney Roberto “Bobby” Serna and local attorney Alberto “Albert” Rodriguez have filed their candidacies in Austin, Texas; and for Texas Senate District 19, State Representative Roland Gutierrez of San Antonio, Texas, attorney Xochitl Rodriguez Pena of San Antonio, and incumbent Senator Pete Flores of Pleasanton have filed their candidacies in Austin with their respective parties.
The deadline to register for the March 3, 2020 Primary Election as a candidate for a county or multi-county race or statewide race is December 9, 2019 at 12 Midnight.
