The Val Verde County Veterans Services Office announced that the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall Replica, known as “The Wall That Heals,” will be visiting and placed on display at Roosevelt Park, 800 Spring Street, Del Rio, Texas during March 5-8, 2020.
“The Wall That Heals” is a scaled traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The exhibit consists of the replica Memorial, mobile Education Center, and information tent. “The Wall That Heals” Exhibit is open to the public day and night throughout its March 5-8th visit to Roosevelt Park in Del Rio, Texas.
Val Verde County is home to over 4,000 veterans and approximately 13% of them (estimated 500) served in the Vietnam War. Many veterans who served in Vietnam did not receive the honor and appreciation that should have accompanied their service to our country, when they came home over 45 years ago. Hosting “The Wall That Heals is Val Verde County’s way of saying “Welcome Home” to our Vietnam Veterans from Val Verde County surrounding counties such as Maverick, Kinney, Uvalde, Zavala, Dimmit, Terrell, Edwards, and others.
“The Wall That Heals” has 58,318 names on the Memorial, 1,600 service members unaccounted for from the Vietnam War, 31 sets of brothers on the Memorial, three sets of fathers and sons on the Memorial, eight women on the Memorial, and much more.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF), a non-profit organization, founded the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. in 1982.
On Veterans Day 1996, the VVMF unveiled a scaled replica of the Memorial known as “The Wall That Heals” for display across the United States. “The Wall That Heals” has traveled to and been on display in over 800 communities across the United States, spreading the Memorial’s healing legacy to millions.
The VVMF’s mission is to honor and preserve the legacy of service in America and educate all generations about the impact of the Vietnam War and era.
A Welcome Home Ceremony will be held on March 7, 2020 at 10 A.M. at Roosevelt Park in Del Rio, Texas to honor all Vietnam War Veterans and American Veterans for their dedication, duty, and service to the United States.
The pubic is invited to attend and visit “The Wall That Heals” during its visit and display in Del Rio, Texas from March 5-8, 2020. For more information, please contact the Val Verde County Veterans Services Office at (830) 774-7548.
