Eagle Pass attorney Alberto Rodriguez has requested a vote recount of the recently held March 3, 2020 Texas Democratic Party Primary Election for the 293rd Judicial District Attorney race after narrowly falling to incumbent District Attorney Roberto Serna of Crystal City by only 33 three votes out of 14,953 cast, announced Juanita V. Martinez, Maverick County Democratic Party Chairperson.
Martinez stated that Rodriguez is principally seeking a recount of the votes in Zavala and Dimmit counties, but election law requires that all the votes be recounted, including Maverick County. Thus, all three counties’ votes will be recounted.
The Maverick County vote recount will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 9 A.M. at the Eagle Pass Multi-Purpose Center in Eagle Pass, Texas.
After the recount of all three (Dimmit, Maverick and Zavala) counties’ vote recount, the votes will be tabulated to determine the outcome of the 293rd Judicial District Attorney race.
In addition to the vote recount process, Alberto Rodriguez still has a legal right under Texas Election law to contest the election results in a civil action trial in state district court should he choose to do so.
Incumbent District Attorney Roberto Serna thanks all the voters of Dimmit, Maverick, and Zavala counties who took the time and exercised their civic duty to vote in the March 3, 2020 Democratic Party Primary Election.
