Eagle Pass International Friendship Festival Postponed Due to Coronavirus
(Press Release) Prioritizing the safety, health and welfare of the Eagle Pass/Maverick County community and its visitors as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread worldwide, the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has deemed it necessary and prudent to postpone its March 20th through March 28th annual International Friendship Festival (IFF) events until a date later in this year, pending announcement. The decision was arrived at with a heavy heart since this will be the first time a decision of this nature is made by the Chamber in the history of the event, which the Chamber instituted in 1962. The Chamber is contacting any and all entities contributing to the festival of this decision, so they may separately decide whether to continue on their own with their respectively planned event or postpone it as well.
Persons who have purchased pre-sale carnival coupons have two options; return the tickets to the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce before Friday, March 27, 2020, during regular Chamber hours (Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.) for a refund of what was paid OR keep the pre-sale coupons in a safe place to use at the rescheduled date which will be later this year.
In addition, the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce’s March 18th Community Breakfast is also cancelled.
The Chamber encourages all to follow common sense recommendations by the American Red Cross as follows to help prevent the spread of any respiratory virus. Information pertinent to the coronavirus pandemic may be found at the United States Centers for Disease Control website www.cdc.gov/covid19.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Put distance between yourself and other people if COVID-19 is spreading in your community.
• Stay home if you are sick, except to get medical care.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing; throw used tissues in the trash. If a tissue isn’t available, cough or sneeze into your elbow or sleeve, not your hands.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, computers, phones, keyboards, sinks, toilets and countertops.
• If surfaces are dirty, clean them – use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection. Full information on how to disinfect found here.
• Wear a facemask if you are sick. You should wear a facemask when you are around other people (e.g., sharing a room or vehicle) and before you enter a healthcare provider’s office.
