Eagle Pass attorney and entrepreneur Heriberto “Eddie” Morales, Jr. swept the Texas House of Representative District 74 Democratic Party Primary over challengers former Eagle Pass Mayor Ramsey English Cantu and Del Rio City Councilman Rowland Garza in the March 3, 2020 Texas Democratic Party Primary.
Morales received a total of 9,398 votes (51%) district-wide compared to Cantu’s 5,035 votes (27.2%) and Garza’s 4,066 votes (22%) to earn the Democratic Party nomination without the need of a run-off election.
Morales won in his home county of Maverick with a total of 5,251 votes (53.92%) compared to Cantu’s 4,043 votes (41.51%) and Garza’s 445 votes (4.57%).
Morales will now face Republican Party candidate Ruben Falcon in the November 3, 2020 Texas general election. Falcon defeated former Del Rio Mayor Robert Garza in the Republican Party Primary Election to earn the right to face-off against Morales in November.
House District 74 has generally voted Democratic in the past and Morales is more than likely expected to prevail in the November 3, 2020 General Election if past voting trends hold up.
Incumbent State Representative District 74 Alfonso “Poncho” Nevarez chose not to seek re-election to his post.
