Eagle Pass attorney Jaime “AJ” Iracheta easily defeated defeated incumbent Maverick County Attorney Gloria E. Hernandez in the March 3, 2020 Maverick County Democratic Party Primary.
Iracheta received a total of 5,310 votes (56.21%) compared to Hernandez’s 4,143 votes (43.79%) to become elected as the next Maverick County Attorney starting in January 1, 2020 since there were no Republican Party candidate for the position, unless an Independent Candidate or Write-In Candidate were to register between now and August 2020, which is highly unlikely.
Iracheta previously had been appointed to become Maverick County Attorney by Commissioners Court upon the resignation of former County Attorney Ricardo Ramos to seek the 293rd Judicial District Court post in the 2018 General Election. Iracheta served as County Attorney for several months until Commissioners Court under the leadership of County Judge David R. Saucedo were requested by the Secretary of State to officially appoint a County Attorney for the unexpired term of former County Attorney Ricardo Ramos and chose former Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas General Counsel Gloria E. Hernandez instead of Iracheta. Iracheta registered for the County Attorney race and now handily prevailed over Hernandez.
Hernandez will remain as County Attorney until December 31, 2020.
