Eagle Pass, Texas Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes announced that a total of 115 people participated in the free drive-thru COVID-19 testing clinic held by the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas National Guard on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Student Activity Center.
Sifuentes stated the drive-thru COVID-19 testing clinic was a great success with 115 Maverick County residents taking advantage of the free COVID-19 tests.
Maverick County Emergency Operations Center Director Leopoldo “Polo” Vielma stated that the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas National Guard did an admirable job in operating an efficient and professional COVID-19 testing program.
Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo stated that this free drive-thru COVID-19 screenings will assist local public health and public policy leaders in assessing the level of community spread of COVID-19 in the community.
National public health experts report more testing is necessary in the United States, as well as in Texas, for determining when to reopen the economy and society.
Judge Saucedo added that test results of the 115 people tested on April 26th should take 48 hours.
Judge Saucedo and Mayor Sifuentes thanked Texas Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of State Health Services, and the Texas National Guard for bringing this much needed free drive-thru COVID-19 testing program to Maverick County residents.
Saucedo and Sifuentes remind all Maverick County residents that the County and City-issued temporary public health emergency orders due to COVID-19 and their restrictions remain in place and for everyone to continue obeying and complying with these orders for the health and safety of all residents.
