Public Health experts have been warning people that COVID-19 is a lethal virus that infects human beings of all ages, including children.
Eagle Pass, Texas Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes announced at a press conference held on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 regarding the status of COVID-19 in Maverick County that the city had received notice from the Texas Department of State Health Services that a child in the community had tested positive for COVID-19 as the 11 confirmed case.
Mayor Sifuentes lamented the fact that a child had become the community’s 11th confirmed positive COVID-19 case, but expressed optimism that three of the 11 positive cases had recovered from their infection.
Sifuentes noted that a total of 290 people have been tested in Maverick County for COVID-19 with 263 people testing negative, 11 people testing positive, 16 people are awaiting their test results, and three people have recovered. Sifuentes commented that the pending cases had decreased to only 16 as local healthcare providers had obtained new laboratory sources to turnaround the COVID-19 tests much quicker.
Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo encouraged all residents to comply with the public health emergency orders issued by both the City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County to continue flattening the curve of the community spread of COVID-19.
Judge Saucedo reminded Maverick Countians that the South Texas Food Bank of Laredo, Texas will be hosting free food distribution to senior citizens who are 55 years or older on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at 10 A.M. at the Quemado Park in Quemado, Texas and on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 10 A.M. at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, Texas. Saucedo advised residents to bring a valid Identification (ID) Card to prove they are 55 years or older and reside in Maverick County and that the two distribution dates are for vehicles only on a Drive-Thru basis. No walk-ups will be permitted. Both food distribution events are on a first-come, first-served basis (until the food supplies last).
