Eagle Pass, Texas Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes posted in his Facebook Page on Saturday, April 18, 2020, that Maverick County had its 13th confirmed positive COVID-19 case.
Mayor Sifuentes stated that “we just got word that another person tested positive. We now have 13 people that have tested positive. This person is related to person #12. This makes three difference families that have multiple family members infected by the virus.”
According to the City of Eagle Pass Emergency Operations Center’s COVID-19 Situation Update, a total of 318 people have been tested for COVID-19 with 13 testing positive, 283 negative, 22 awaiting test results, four persons have recovered from the virus, and there have been no deaths as a result of COVID-19 in Maverick County.
Both the City of Eagle Pass City Council and Maverick County Commissioners Court have approved Declaration of Disaster Public Health Emergency Orders requiring certain temporary restrictions to prevent the community spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus within Maverick County, including, but not limited to, stay at home, use of face covering (face mask), limiting gatherings to 10 or less people, social distancing, closing of non-essential businesses, limiting religious services to televideo or teleconference means, imposition of a juvenile curfew, and other restrictions.
Violation of these temporary public health emergency orders may result in a resident or business being charged with a misdemeanor offense with a fine of up to $1,000 or up to 180 days (six months) in jail.
The City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County established a multi-agency law enforcement task force on March 30, 2020 to patrol local residents compliance with the temporary public health emergency orders. The task force is composed of the City of Eagle Pass Police Department, Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, Maverick County Constables, and Eagle Pass Independent School District Police Department.
All Maverick County residents are requested to obey and comply with the temporary public health orders and their restrictions to avoid the deadly COVID-19 virus from spreading within the community. These temporary restrictions are intended to protect the health and safety of all Maverick County citizens.
