Maverick County residents started arriving as early as 4 A.M. for the scheduled 9 A.M. second free food distribution in Maverick County, Texas on Wednesday, April 28, 2020 sponsored by the South Texas Food Bank of Laredo, Maverick County, and the City of Eagle Pass.
Unlike the first free food distribution held on April 16, 2020 at the Maverick County Lake in Eagle Pass, the second free food distribution was held at the Eagle Pass Independent School District Student Activity Center located at 5021 E. U.S. Highway 277 in Eagle Pass, avoiding the traffic congestion experienced during the first distribution. Local law enforcement officials easily handled smoothly and efficiently the large number of vehicles participating in the April 28th free food distribution event within the large parking space available at the EPISD Student Activity Center.
Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo stated that a total of over 1,000 free food allocations were dispensed to Maverick County residents at the April 28th event. Saucedo added that a total of 2,114 adults and 1,122 children benefitted from the free food distribution on April 28th, totaling 3,236 residents in Maverick County.
Judge Saucedo stated a total of 779 food allocations had been dispensed during the April 15-16th event serving 1,464 adults and 425 children, totaling 1,889 residents of Maverick County.
Saucedo added that between the two free food distributions held by the South Texas Food Bank during the month of April 2020, a grand total of 5,125 residents of Maverick County benefitted from the two distributions.
Saucedo thanked South Texas Food Bank Director of Compliance DeAnne Economedes for her outstanding management and coordination of the two free food distribution events held in Maverick County during April of 2020.
Eagle Pass Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes stated the gates to the EPISD Student Activity Center opened at 6 A.M. for the scheduled 9 A.M. free food distribution event on April 28th because people arrived as early as 4 A.M. Sifuentes added that the distribution started early at 8:20 A.M. due to the large number of vehicles present for the event and completed by 11 A.M. with the food supply extinguished.
Sifuentes noted that five free face masks were distributed to each vehicle participating in the food distribution event and the Maverick County Census Team took advantage of the large number of local residents present to fill-out their U.S. Census form.
