The Texas Department of State Health Services in Austin, Texas notified City of Eagle Pass, Texas Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes that a seventh person had tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, April 4, 2020.
Mayor Sifuentes posted on his Facebook Page on Saturday, April 4, 2020 the following: “I just got word that one more person has tested positive for the Coronavirus. This one is related to contact with the fourth case we received earlier this week. It is difficult to say how many of our citizens have been exposed by those that have tested positive, but I can easily say hundreds. Every time you go out, you are exposing yourself and your loved ones to this virus.”
Mayor Sifuentes and Maverick County Judge David R. Saucedo hold daily press conferences during the late-afternoon Monday through Friday to inform Maverick County residents the latest news and status of COVID-19 in the community. Both Sifuentes and Saucedo remind all citizens to please obey and comply with the City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County Declaration of Disaster Public Health Emergency that requires everyone in Maverick County to stay at home (shelter in place), only go outside their home for essential travel or work, and to practice social distancing (six feet) all the time to prevent the community spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Sifuentes and Saucedo emphatically remind all citizens of Maverick County and visitors that COVID-19 is for real and can be deadly to one’s health and that of your family, loved ones, friends, and co-workers. They plead with all citizens to take COVID-19 serious because the community is in the middle of the pandemic and there is no vaccine and cure for this lethal virus. They emphasize that Coronavirus is highly contagious and each person with the virus can easily infect hundreds of other persons regardless of their age or health-status.
COVID-19 quickly grows exponentially within a community once it is introduced and every person within the community runs the risk of becoming infected if they do not practice the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) precautionary measures and remain sheltered at home while practicing physical and social distancing with other human beings. Thus, Mayor Sifuentes and County Judge Saucedo’s message to you and everyone in the community is to “STAY AT HOME. SAVE LIVES.”
Now is not the time to be foolish or unselfish and wishfully think that the COVID-19 will not infect you or your family. Everyone is a potential target and victim of this COVID-19, particularly people over 60 years old and those with pre-existing medical conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, respiratory problems, cardiology issues, cancer, and other immunocompromised conditions.
According to national public health experts, the next three to four weeks are extremely critical for everyone to obey and comply with their local, county, or state governments stay at home (shelter in place) emergency orders and curfews. Experts recommend that every person should not go outside their homes and visit or have contact with other people to avoid becoming infected with COVID-19 and spreading it within the community and your loved ones.
STAY AT HOME. SAVE LIVES.
QUEDATE EN CASA. SALVA VIDAS.
