Eagle Pass, Texas Mayor Luis E. Sifuentes announced on his Facebook Page that the total number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Maverick County had spiked from 31 to 41 on Sunday, May 10, 2020, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Mayor Sifuentes stated on May 10, 2020 that “we confirmed the patient that was tested in San Antonio, then came to EP (Eagle Pass) with her family, and we have 9 more today. Preliminary investigations lead us to believe that the 9 from today are related or acquaintances of the the couple who tested positive on Friday. For that reason you see 10 more positive from Friday’s report.”
Sifuentes reported a total of 701 people have been tested for COVID-19 in Maverick County with a total of 611 people testing negative, 41 positive, 49 are waiting for results, and 11 have recovered as of May 10, 2020.
This is the highest increase in number of positive COVID-19 cases in Maverick County in a one day, 24 hours period. The increase of 10 cases clearly shows that there is community spread of the lethal COVID-19 virus within Maverick County and how infectious the virus is among humans.
Sifuentes urges all residents of Maverick County to obey and comply with Governor Greg Abbott’s Declaration of Disaster Public Health Emergency as well as the City of Eagle Pass and Maverick County Public Health Emergency Orders.
Sifuentes recommends that all people practice social distancing, limit gatherings to 10 or less people, wear face masks, wash your hands, use sanitizers, and limit any travel to only essential matters.
